Does Niseko Have an Airport? Why You Fly Into New Chitose, and How to Get to Niseko [2026-27]

Niseko has no airport. You fly into New Chitose Airport, south of Sapporo, and the ski bus from there to Hirafu takes about 2 hours 30 minutes (White Liner's 2026-27 timetable).

That's why typing "Niseko" into a flight search turns up nothing. Sapporo's Okadama Airport and Hakodate Airport are also in Hokkaido, but if you're coming from overseas and heading to Niseko, search for New Chitose (airport code CTS, usually listed as "Sapporo") and you won't go wrong. Singapore's winter nonstops land at New Chitose too. Below: why New Chitose, what happens if you pick another airport, and the four ways from the airport to Niseko with prices, all checked on the operators' official sites on 5 October 2026. If the only flight you can get lands at night, read Landing at New Chitose at night: can you reach Niseko the same day? before you book.

Fly into New Chitose. The reason is where the buses leave from

The main reason to pick New Chitose is that the reserved-seat buses to Niseko start here. In 2026-27, White Liner runs six departures a day from the airport (9:45 to 15:45) between 12 December and 23 March, taking about 2 hours 30 minutes to Hirafu (White Liner). Hokkaido Resort Liner runs 1 December to 30 March, reaching Hirafu's No.1 car park via Rusutsu in about 2 hours 45 minutes, then carrying on to hotels in Niseko Village and Annupuri (Hokkaido Access Network).

The other reason is what you can do once you land. The JR Rapid Airport train reaches Sapporo in as little as 37 minutes (adults ¥1,230) and runs through to Otaru without a change (JR Hokkaido). The station sits directly under the terminal, so if a delay makes you miss your bus, you can keep moving by train without stepping outside.

From Singapore: land at 7:30am, take a late-morning bus

Singapore has nonstop winter flights to New Chitose. As reported by the miles site Mainly Miles in September 2026, Singapore Airlines' Singapore to Sapporo flights run daily from 30 November 2026 to 24 January 2027, five times a week from 25 to 31 January, and three times a week from 1 to 28 February (Mainly Miles). The same site reported in December 2025 that the flight is SQ660, leaving Singapore at 23:15 and landing at 7:30, and that Scoot would fly daily via Taipei (Mainly Miles). Times and dates can change, so confirm them on the booking screen.

If that 7:30 arrival holds, you can be on a bus that same morning. The catch is where it leaves from: White Liner does not depart from the international terminal. Its counter is in the domestic terminal's 1F arrivals hall, a 10 to 15 minute walk, and the company asks international arrivals to allow at least 90 minutes. Hokkaido Resort Liner only stops at the international terminal from the 14:00 departure onward. With immigration and the wait for ski bags, I'd book the 10:45 rather than the 9:45.

Okadama and Hakodate won't get you there faster

Okadama is a small airport inside Sapporo with no international flights. As of March 2026, Hokkaido Air System flies to Hakodate, Kushiro, Memanbetsu, Okushiri, Rishiri and Misawa, Fuji Dream Airlines to Shizuoka, Matsumoto and Nagoya (Komaki), and Toki Air to Niigata and elsewhere (City of Sapporo). From central Sapporo, Chuo Bus's Niseko express takes about 3 hours 5 minutes (Hokkaido Chuo Bus, summer 2026 timetable; winter times not yet out), and from Okadama you first have to get into central Sapporo. Compared with landing at New Chitose, that's at least one extra change.

As of October 2026, Hakodate's only international flights are to Taipei (Taoyuan), on Tigerair Taiwan and STARLUX (Hakodate Airport). From Hakodate you take JR to Oshamambe, then change to a local Hakodate Line train toward Kutchan, and only four trains a day leave Oshamambe in that direction (JR Hokkaido timetable, October 2026). It makes sense if you're coming from Taiwan and want to see Hakodate too. If skiing is the point, landing at New Chitose means fewer changes and less waiting.

New Chitose to Niseko: four ways and what they cost

OptionPrice (2026-27, one way)Best for
Reserved busWhite Liner adult ¥7,000, child ¥5,000 / Hokkaido Resort Liner adult ¥6,000, child ¥5,0001 to 3 people, light luggage
Private transferSkyExpress winter (12 Dec to 28 Feb): ¥57,000 for 1 to 3 people, ¥75,000 for 4 to 8Families, groups, late arrivals
Rental carDepends on company and carDrivers used to snow and mountain passes
JRAirport to Kutchan ¥3,100 (checked on Ekitan, 5 Oct)Light packers who don't mind changing trains

Both bus companies take reservations only. White Liner's web bookings made during October are 20% off, bringing the adult fare to ¥5,600. A departure with fewer than six bookings is cancelled (you're told seven days before), and luggage is limited to one ski or snowboard set plus one other bag per person. A family with two ski bags and two suitcases will have an easier time with a private transfer. SkyExpress adds a 15% surcharge for pickups and drop-offs between 21:00 and 6:00, and charges ¥10,000 an hour if your flight is more than 30 minutes late (Niseko Central).

My view on rental cars: if you can get around Niseko without one, don't hire one. The road from the airport crosses mountain passes, so check conditions on Kita-no-Michi Navi before you set off. By JR, the Rapid Airport to Otaru takes about 75 minutes, then a local Hakodate Line train to Kutchan takes about another 75 minutes (October 2026 timetable), plus however long you wait for the connection in Otaru (fare checked on Ekitan). From Kutchan Station to Hirafu it's a bus or a taxi. Local trains run every one to two hours, so missing one means a long wait. For getting around once you're there, see Can you get around Niseko without a car?

What to decide before you book flights

On the way in, aim to land at New Chitose by midday. The last airport departures are 15:45 for White Liner and 19:30 for Hokkaido Resort Liner (19:40 from the international terminal, from 7 December). Landing later than that, decide in advance whether you'll pre-book a private transfer or spend a night at the airport. Your bus drop-off depends on where you're staying, so if you haven't chosen yet, settle the area first with Where to stay in Niseko.

On the way home, Hirafu to the airport is 2.5 hours, and snow slows the road. White Liner's return buses reach the airport at five times between 10:20 and 18:00, and the company recommends at least 120 minutes before an international departure. Going home on White Liner, that means a flight leaving after 20:00. I'd pick an evening flight home. If only morning flights work, move to the airport or Sapporo the day before, so a snowed-in road can't make you miss the plane.

FAQ

Does Niseko have an airport?

No. Almost everyone heading to Niseko flies into New Chitose Airport (CTS), south of Sapporo. From there, the ski bus to Hirafu takes about 2 hours 30 minutes (2026-27 season).

Are there direct flights from Singapore to Niseko?

Not to Niseko, but there are winter nonstops to New Chitose. As reported in September 2026, Singapore Airlines' Singapore to Sapporo flights are scheduled daily from 30 November to 24 January, five times a week from 25 to 31 January, then three times a week in February. Confirm the dates on the airline's booking screen.

Can I fly into Hakodate or Okadama instead?

You can, but you'll change more often and it takes longer. Okadama has domestic flights only, and Hakodate's only international route is Taipei (as of October 2026). By JR from Hakodate, just four local trains a day run from Oshamambe toward Kutchan (October 2026 timetable).

How much does it cost to get from New Chitose to Niseko?

The reserved buses cost ¥6,000 to ¥7,000 for adults and ¥5,000 for children (2026-27, one way). A private transfer with SkyExpress in winter is ¥57,000 for 1 to 3 people or ¥75,000 for 4 to 8.
