Rubbish & manners
Sort rubbish per your lodge's rules (street bins are scarce). Keep quiet in residential areas at night. Check tattoo policies and bathing etiquette before using an onsen.

Onsen & bathing
Several onsen offer day-use bathing nearby. Towels may cost extra, so bring your own. Rinse before entering and keep towels out of the water. Tattoo rules vary by facility.

Winter roads & driving
Winter roads are packed snow and ice. Even with studless tyres, avoid sudden moves; whiteouts can erase visibility. Check Hokkaido road info for closures.

Payment & tipping
There is no tipping culture. Listed prices usually include tax. Cards and contactless work widely in central Hirafu, but small shops and stalls may be cash-only, so carry some cash.
