June in Niseko: How to Make the Most of the Green Season
Niseko Hub Editorial Team · 2026/06/10

June. The season when Niseko shines its greenest has arrived.
The long winter's snow has melted, the trees burst into leaf all at once, and alpine flowers begin to bloom in the mountains. The air turns clear, the light soft. Hokkaido's summer has none of the sticky heat of the main island.
This guide covers everything you can do in Niseko during the green season — from nature walks to activities to ways to enjoy it as a family.
June Is Niseko's Greenest Month
With a little snow still lingering on the summit of Mt. Yotei, the foothills fill with fresh, vivid green.
Niseko's summer is wonderfully cool. The average summer temperature is around 19°C, and even at the height of July, daytime highs stay at just 24–25°C.
Leaving behind the muggy heat of mainland Japan to spend a few days in crisp, pleasant air — that alone makes for a luxurious escape.
Meet Niseko's Nature on Foot
Start by taking it slow, on foot.
In the valleys of the Niseko range lies "Shinsen-numa," a marsh pond known for its mystical scenery. Follow the boardwalk, and a quiet surface opens up, mirroring the sky and the forest.
"Hangetsu-ko" in Kutchan is a beautiful crescent-shaped lake, too — a popular nature spot where you can stroll the foothills of Mt. Yotei.
For those who want to truly hike, the summer climbing season is here. Alpine flowers in full bloom will colour the path at your feet.
Within your own limits, at your own pace. That's how to enjoy Niseko's nature.
Get Moving: Summer Activities
If you'd rather be active, there's plenty to choose from.
Niseko's most popular summer activity is rafting on the Shiribetsu River. In summer the current is gentle, with calm stretches where you can even swim — fun for families with children, too.
Glide across the water on a SUP, or soar through the sky on a zipline. And cycling thrives here, making the most of the varied terrain. From road bikes to e-bikes to mountain bikes, there's a ride to match every level.
Across the area — starting with Hanazono Resort — you'll find more than 20 kinds of activities to enjoy.
The Best Seat of the Morning: A Hot-Air Balloon
Wake a little early and try a hot-air balloon.
Because Niseko sits at the foot of the mountains and is prone to wind, balloons fly in the calm of early morning. It's a tethered ride that floats gently up to around 20–30 metres, with views over Mt. Yotei and the Niseko range.
Reservations are generally required by the day before, and the pilot makes the weather call on the morning itself.
The view over land still wrapped in morning mist is a scene found only in this season.
Rainy Days and Family Days
Even if the weather turns, there's still plenty to enjoy.
Indoor play areas and experience programmes for all ages abound. Making pizza with vegetables fresh from the field, or ice cream from Hokkaido milk — there's something to absorb everyone, from children to grown-ups.
Penciling one "rainy-day option" into your plans is a reassuring move.
In the Green Season, Come and Meet Niseko
Winter Niseko is a glamorous season, when skiers gather from all over the world.
The green season, by contrast, is quieter — a time to meet people at a closer distance.
A chat with a guide, a pause at a café, a "hello" with a fellow traveller passing by. Amid all the green, the distance between people softens, too.
This summer, why not come and meet the Niseko you haven't seen yet?
The latest on summer in Niseko is shared on the official site, too.
