よくある落とし穴
Saying よんじ or きゅうじ for 4時 / 9時
CAUSE They follow the regular よん / きゅう pattern you learned for counting
FIX Time breaks the pattern. 4時 = よじ, 7時 = しちじ, 9時 = くじ. Burn these three in by repeating 『よじ、しちじ、くじ』every time you look at a clock for a week.
Using を or で instead of に for 'at [time]'
CAUSE English prepositions don't map 1-to-1
FIX Specific point in time → に. 『8時に』『10時半に』『月曜日に』. Range → から / まで. If it's a single moment, it's に.
Confusing 午前 (AM) and 午後 (PM) when reading a schedule
CAUSE They look similar at a glance
FIX 午前 contains 前 'before (noon)'. 午後 contains 後 'after (noon)'. Niseko shifts are often written in 24-hour format on the board (16:00 = 4 PM) — if you see a number above 12, it's PM.
Forgetting the particle in 『シフトは9時から5時までです』
CAUSE English says 'from 9 to 5' with no equivalent of まで
FIX In Japanese, から and まで always come as a pair when stating a range. Drill the pair together, never apart.
